| Born in Hollywood, Tracy has been drawing since she was 3 and began painting in oil at 11. Her mother was a New York nightclub singer and her father a pilot who flew 29 missions during World War II. After he returned, Willard Dennison, a handsome, restless man, moved his family many times before settling in the San Fernando Valley.
Tracy was always the new kid in school. She found that she could reach others through her art. When she received a set of oil paints and canvases, Tracy understood the new medium instantly. Later, at Stephens College in Missouri, Tracys art teacher took her aside to tell her she had a unique talent and advise her not to imitate other artists or teachers, but to stay true to herself.
After leaving the University of Arizona, Tracy worked for an advertising agency in Hollywood. Although this was an exciting time in her life, her real desire was to leave her own imprint.
Tracy had grown up hearing stories from her mother, Taff Dennison, about her experiences as a nightclub singer at the Zebra Club in New York, a hang-out for theatre people and gangsters, and as a singer on cruise ships bound for Cuba. Inspired by these memories, Tracy began her art deco paintings. Many of Tracys works are set in New York and showcase landmark buildings, classic automobiles and vintage airplanes conveying the romance and elegance of a bygone, but golden and elegant, era. However, Tracy was not content to limit herself to the East Coast, but expanded her horizons to Hollywood, Palm Springs, etc.
Tracys work has been published by Landon House, Macro Fine Art and Adtech Publishing Group. Over the last several years, she has signed over 6,000 prints for the Princess Cruise Line.
Tracy is now publishing her work to ensure that the prints are of the highest quality.
DECO BY DENISON proudly invites the viewer not only to enjoy a trip back in time to the 30s, but also to view more contemporary subjects in Tracys unique style.
Images Of The 30s
The 1930s was a time of elegance with Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Cary Grant and Katherine Hepburn as its icons. Skyscrapers like the Chrysler and Empire State Buildings dominated the stage in New York City. Aviation was a fairly recent invention and automobiles were beyond compare in design and beauty. Fashions of the time were feminine and alluring for women and men looked dashing in fedoras and top hats.
Painting has given me the chance to create a perfect moment in time. I design the clothes, the interiors and their furnishings and pick the automobiles and buildings that grace my sets.
For me, this idealized world is more than an illusion; it is where my hopes and dreams reside, a safe harbor, where I can refresh my spirit, away from serious issues. The viewer is invited to step into this world and share these dreams. |
